You can diminish the hurricane. Pour some ordinary vegetable oil (wesson, soybean, canola, olive, peanut, corn, etc.) onto the surface of any body of water nearby. That will deprive the hurricane of the energy it needs to keep itself alive as an organized system in our atmosphere. Hurricanes need

evaporating water to run. An oil monolayer on the sea (2 gallons will monolayer an area of 1 square mile) will choke Hurricane Irma to death.
Benjamin Franklin came up with this idea. Franklin didn't have inexpensive light vegetable oils like we have today and he couldn't see storms from space like we have now, either. Ben Franklin was able to throw a teaspoon of olive oil on a pond though, and it smoothed the surface over 1/2 acre! There are 756 teaspoons roughly in a gallon of soybean oil. That much oil will smooth and calm the waters over 1/2 square mile!
I deployed 150 gallons of soybean and canola oil off the shores of Key West on Thursday. Hopefully that will protect the island.
I would like to implore you to ask your viewers to take the oil out of their pantries and pour it into any body of water, large or small, near you. Rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, the sea itself (as far out and as far toward the hurricane as possible), pour out it oil.
Private pilots? Take a few gallons of vegetable oil and pour it into the ocean ahead of the storm. The oil will self-deploy at the rate of 0.1m/s to 0.3m/s depending on the windspeed. Deployment in open ocean takes the form of a circle or oval on the sea surface.
I deployed 50 gallons against Hurricane Matthew and it seems to have worked then. Now let us all make this effort, and see if we can shut Hurricane Irma down altogether!
